You are not the first person to rant about the cost of leaving your car in the Mount Elizabeth Hospital carpark, if you can find a parking lot in the first place ! If you are a visitor or a care-giver who needs to spend a lot of time at the hospital with a patient, there are some alternatives worth considering.
If you think it is best to park within the hospital, there are a few parking options. The very small car park at the hospital's accident and emergency entrance is reserved for doctors. You can still drive through it and drop your passengers off, then exit the car park. Head towards the car park at the medical centre tower opposite the Paragon taxi stand. The Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre car park has two parts. The first is obvious when you drive in. It has 2 levels and a valet counter. You can choose to find a space yourself or hand your car to a valet for a $10 fee. This fee does not include your parking charges.
If you fail to find a space here, drive into the basement and that will lead to a car lift or elevator that transports you and your car to the upper levels of the building. The process is a bit tricky if you are new to the hospital and you may find it difficult to get in and out of the basement car park which is very congested during office hours.
Generally parking along the Orchard Road stretch will be more expensive. You can leave your car at one of the many shopping malls nearby. Paragon is right across a small road from Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Lucky Plaza is another possibility. Then there is Ngee Ann City on the other side of Orchard Road and a multi-level car park at Bideford Road. Parking at some hotels may not be economical if you are not a hotel guest.
A little farther out, you can consider parking at Wheelock Place. It has a basement carpark as well as a public parking area just behind Far East Shopping Centre. Along Scotts Road, there is the Ministry of Environment Building which charges around only 1 dollar an hour. The Enviornment building is right next to the Newton MRT station, a taxi stand and a bus stop so getting into Orchard Road is easy.
